I created this artwork after the shocking events on September 11th, 2001. What happened that day left an indelible impression on me. On that particular day I happened to be in America, in Chicago to be precisely. It was clear to me that I had to create an artwork about this in a later stadium. I realised this was a very emotional event. That is why I bought a newspaper on September 12th.
For al long time I did not know what to do with this newspaper, but after 10 years I got the perfect idea. I wanted to recreate the skyline of NY with the World Trade Center. I put the articles from the newspaper from that day around the buildings. For this purpose, I scanned the newspaper.
Because of the copyrights, I asked USA Today permission to reproduce this artwork with their photos in 10 copies. Unfortunately, they could not grant me this permission. Therefore, I made a new artwork of the skyline without the articles from the newspaper. To me, the initial artwork was better and more authentic, but unfortunately I had no choice.
